Makeup Usage

Going into this experiment of tracking how often I use each makeup product I own I for some reason expected to have high numbers and reminders that my makeup lasts so long I don’t need more I’m happy using what I have. Yet I also knew I only wear makeup once a week, twice max if I’m feeling it. This month I wore makeup six times. The staples including my rare beauty foundation, the color corrector, concealer, blush, highlight, and mascara were used six times. I didn’t use the powder foundation at all. I used the Winky Lux primer/conditioner five times and the Pacifica primer/serum twice.

This project did encourage me to branch out some. I used the primer twice and the setting spray once. I did expand my eyeshadow use using both palettes and the Flower Child shadow once; the In Harmony shadow was used twice. I also used the eyeliner once. My lip color use was probably the thing that shocked me the most. Because of how little I wore makeup this month I only wore 4 different products: the Rimmel lipstick once, the holographic lipgloss twice, the Nyx lip oil 5 times, and the Sephora sheer lipstick twice.

When it comes to lip balms I knew I wouldn’t use many but I was still surprised by something. At the beginning of this month, I estimated my Sephora lip mask would only last a week and instead, it lasted me 20 days using it as my daytime lip balm. So I made much less of a dent in my EOS 24hr balm having only 11 days of this month to use it.

This project really curbed my desire for new makeup products, and so now, even post-Christmas with gifted money, I’m not tempted to buy anything. I otherwise don’t see a need for a project of this type to move forward, but it’s good to know I have this in my back pocket when I feel tempted again.
