Celebrating!

It’s officially been one year since I started this blog. It has been more than I ever expected and I am so proud. I have certainly grown a lot since the start of this endeavor. To celebrate one year I wanted to look back on some milestone posts.

Of course, we have to start with my very first post. This was my first real hand-sewing project, and I made a doll named Rosemary. I am sad to say that after a couple of months, her stitching came undone on multiple limbs and then her head. She is no longer in my possession.

One thing I noticed is that I had titled a post as Part 1 fully intending to have follow-up posts. This was to document my growth with pressing flowers because I do think the result is beautiful. I however was never able to get them to stay together as a flower or to keep their colors. And after only a couple of months I decided to stop buying flowers to save money. Maybe one day I’ll have a part two but it’s not likely to be this year.

I’ve noticed a number of early posts (like this one) are explicitly about habits/routines and to be frank I’m not great at them. I’m still trying to find what works for me, so expect more posts about this topic. I have been thinking about trying a system I was recently introduced to, maybe this trip down memory lane will be the push I need.

Another consistent theme is my quest for less stuff and better finances. I don’t honestly know how to feel about where I am in that quest. On the stuff front, I think there is some need to balance how good I feel with a clutter-free space, but also that the items I own are positively adding to my life.

In May of last year, I did a series of posts about mental health for Mental Health Awareness Month. I felt really confident as a blogger having such a structured goal of what I was writing about, especially since it’s a topic I am both personally and professionally familiar with. I don’t know how to recreate that experience especially because I like having the freedom to post about whatever is on my mind. I don’t want to limit myself to one niche, but I would greatly enjoy doing more short-term projects like MHAM.

In the past, I have briefly mentioned my goals for weight loss. It’s been 26 weeks since I started the journey in earnest and I’m proud of the healthy progress I’ve made. I have overall been eating healthier and that does a world of good. However, I’ve really struggled to be consistent with exercise, in part because as mentioned earlier I really struggle with routines. While I want to be cautious about how I discuss these topics, I am not opposed to sharing my journey more if it will help me stay on track for my goals.

I have been a pet fish parent for almost a decade now. After a difficult loss, I ventured back into the world of fish and there were a few troubles along the way. I initially had 5 platies, but barely a week later I added two killifish and a pleco. Unfortunately, I believe the pleco introduced a disease of some kind. The pleco died first followed by 3 of the platies. After nursing the remaining fish back to health, I waited a while for them to settle before I introduced two more platies. Just recently, I decided to round out the tank with 6 cory catfish. I have a very lively tank and I am so happy with it. I doubt I’ll be adding any more fish to it this year.

I cannot wait to see where I will be next year!
