Spring Cleaning

The spring equinox was a couple of weeks ago, but the weather has gotten slowly better here in Boston. With this time of year comes an influx of Spring Cleaning/Spring Reset content from social media. And I’m contributing to it today. I do overall think it’s nice to have some time once a year to do those things we don’t have the energy or interest in doing regularly. I’m not looking to create a perfect space, just something that’s a little cleaner for my realistic life.

My first task was dusting the foot of the toilet. We clean the floors, sinks, tub/shower, and toilet regularly but dusting the foot of the toilet is something we often overlook because it doesn’t directly impact our use of the bathroom.

Next up was dusting the baseboards. By baseboards I mean both the decorative molding at the bottom of the wall but also our baseboard heater covers.

Another overlooked place dust gathers is the tops of picture frames.

The oven back and vent get wiped down from noticeable food stains but grease still builds up, so it’s time to tackle that.

Here is my most embarrassing confession of this post. I’ve never cleaned the bathroom vent. Mostly because I’ve never known how, but today I gave it my best shot. In person, you can see that the inside is still incredibly dusty, but the outside looks better.

Lastly, I dusted the cabinets with the dishes. It doesn’t look dusty in the pictures but I promise you it was. Most of the cabinets could probably benefit from a dusting but these were the most accessible and something is better than nothing. Who knows, I might decide to tackle the other cabinets next week now that it’s a smaller task.
