Our health impacts so much of our lives. Many of us immediately think of our physical health when we hear a statement like that, but the reality is our mental, emotional, social, financial, and spiritual health are just as important. I hope you will join me as I explore a variety of topics relating to mental health and healing for Mental Health Awareness Month.

While almost everyone will experience some mental health concerns and for many of us poor mental health can be temporary. Therapists and psychiatrists can help in short term interventions to address stressors, build coping skills, and establish a new equilibrium. However, there is no shame in long term mental health struggles. Life is difficult and moving through life with a brain that creates more obstacles for you is a challenge no one should have to take on alone.

If you or anyone you know are experiencing depression that increases in frequency and/or severity, is having thoughts that you are a burden, is isolating from loved ones, is having thoughts of wishing you wouldn’t wake up, or having thoughts of harming or hurting yourself you are not alone. These feelings are temporary and there are resources to support you. 988 is the national suicide hotline and they are an excellent resource for support. If you don’t feel like talking on the phone you can also text TALK to 741741. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is an excellent place to start for both resources and community.
