When I first read this prompt the image that popped into my head was a cabin on a lake somewhere remote. Having lived in Boston for 2.5 years I’ve learned that I value having access to nature. It was nice the first year and a half to have such immediate access to the city and all it has to offer, but my interest in the offerings has diminished each year to the point that I wouldn’t mind if I lived farther away and had to make a special trip into the city for the occasional show or game.
Living in nature, being able to walk out my front door and be surrounded by the benefits of wild flora and fauna would be really beneficial for me. In many ways, my social life wouldn’t change too much. Many of my friends are long distance and even the local friendships require effort and commitment to maintain so my social life wouldn’t be impacted by such a rural relocation.
I do think that realistically I’d stay in New England. I briefly considered if I could move anywhere would I try moving to Colorado or another country, particularly in Northern Europe (I like my snow). While I do think I would be happy visiting these type of rural mountain regions, I ultimately would not love living elsewhere for a variety of reasons. The east coast of the US is home, it’s where my family is, it’s where I feel I belong. So while others might dream big abut living anywhere in the world, I likely would live in another Massachusetts town.
